An exclusive Interview
Brief Bio Data
1. Name: Hari Narayanan.M
DOB: 26th October,1985
E-mail: jm.hari@gmail.com
Education:
College @ Hindustan College of Engineering, Chennai with a bachelor degree in Architecture(B.Arch)
2. Though wanting to become an IAS Officer was a childhood dream I should honestly tell that I did move away in between in my carrier and that is how I pursued architecture. When I started working as an architect I really didn’t find satisfaction with what I was doing. I just felt that there was something more important for me in life than what I was doing. I worked for 8 months. When I turned back it was just knowledge about buildings that I had gained. Life was monotonous. I really wanted something better. When I had time for myself I sat and kept thinking. It was then that I realized that there can be no better thing than the civil services. I said to myself just one attempt Hari. And today it is reality and the work I put in has paid off with so many people helping, guiding and loving me including God.
3. I had taken Geography and Sociology as my options. I chose geography basically due to the fact that there was an able person to guide me and due to my interest in social studies. Being well versed in English I thought that a subject of humanities would be the best to way to go and that’s how I chose Sociology.
4. I attended coaching at Shankar IAS Academy in Chennai for both my subjects as well as the general studies paper.
5. As for the preparation strategy I’m a person who strongly believes that it should be unique to each person. A person has to work to his own capacity, study the amount he can, prepare his own study plans along with some peer guidance. As for me, I didn’t read a lot but I read consistently. I chose not to look at people around and study all that my friends read. I just read books I was comfortable with. I sincerely ask people to read only what is necessary.
6. I read books prescribed to me by the academy. Other than that I read the Hindu paper regularly. I think the internet today is one of the best sources of information and it can be put to best use.
7. Civil Services Exam would be an experience of a lifetime to any person who gives it a sincere attempt. For me it was really a life changing experience. The most important thing I learnt due the course of this exam was to be patient, level headed and never to take hasty decisions. I think in life there would have been many instances where I could have learnt the above but then I really think that this exam engraved it in me. When I started preparing I was being stupid, reading crazily without any plan or proper ideas. I wanted to quit at the end of 3 months. It was then that one person told me to take this process as just another exam in life. From then everything changed. I became more relaxed about it. Started doing things in a better way, better planned. And trust me no person would have the same experience because this exam looks for the individual in you. With every individual being unique the experience will also be unique. Enjoy it my friends.
8. As I’ve mentioned in the previous para this exam looks for the individual in you. The culmination of the above process is the personality test. I strongly think that we just need to be ourselves at the interview. As for the questions, it would be based on the application submitted, educational qualification, the subjects read and the day to day happenings. (Please do find the attachment of the questions put to me at my personality test.) The interview board is generally cordial and engages the individual in a good conversation. To be honest this is what I had experienced.
9. Total Marks: 1269
10. I would like to end by wishing everyone attending this exam good luck. Hard and smart work will be paid. If not today there will always be another.
