President Gives Assent to Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Bill 

President Pranab Mukherjee has given his assent to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill paving the way for creation of a separate state of Telangana. 

The bill was passed by Parliament in its just concluded Session. The President has also signed a proclamation to impose central rule in Andhra Pradesh placing the Assembly under suspended animation. 

The term of the Assembly comes to an end on 2nd of June this year. The Union Cabinet on Friday had recommended imposition of the President's rule in the State on the report of Governor E S L Narasimhan. 

This was necessitated after Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy resigned in protest against the passage of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill. The State was without a Chief Minister and no party came forward to form the government.

The Presidential assent paves the way for creation of the country's 29th state, Telangana. There will be 13 districts in residuary Andhra Pradesh while Telangana will have 10 districts, including the Hyderabad. 

The mega city will be the joint capital of the two states for a maximum period of 10 years. The Governor will be in charge of matters related to law and order and he will have a special responsibility for the security of life, liberty and property of all residents of the joint Capital
