The 2014 Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been
awarded to a trio of scientists for improving the resolution of microscopes.
American scientists Eric Betzig and William Moerner and Germany's Stefan Hell used fluorescence to extend the limits of the light microscope.
They were named at a press conference by the The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Sweden.
The Nobel Committee said the researchers had won the award for the development of super-resolved fluorescence microscopy.
