French
author Patrick Modiano wins Nobel Prize in literature-2014
French author, Patrick Modiano has won this
year's Nobel Prize for Literature. The Swedish Academy has called him "a
Marcel Proust of our times".
Modiano has written extensively about Jewish
identity in Europe after World War II and Germany's occupation of France. The
Swedish Academy has conferred the award on Modiano for the art of memory, with
which he has evoked the most ungraspable human destinies and uncovered the
life-world of the occupation.
The 69-year old author published his first
book in 1968 and focuses mainly on historical fiction.
