Two Japanese, one American win Nobel Prize in physics- 2014

Two Japanese professors, Isamu Akasaki and Hiroshi Amano of Japan and US scientist Shuji Nakamura have won the 2014 Nobel Prize in physics for the invention of blue light-emitting diodes, a new energy efficient and environment-friendly light source.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences today said in a press conference in Sweden, the invention is just 20 years old, but it has already contributed to create white light in an entirely new manner. Using the blue light, LED lamps emitting white light could be created in a new way.
