Centre seeks States comments on revised scheme for state civil service officers’ promotion

The Centre has sought comments from the States on its revised scheme for promotion of state civil service officers into IAS, IPS and Indian Forest Service.

As per the new scheme, State civil service officers will now have to face a Union Public Service Commission test and interview for promotion to the All India Services. An official order by Department of Personnel and Training said the States can send their comments on the matter by 23rd of this month.

So far, the induction of state civil service officers into All India Services is being done on the basis of a review of their seniority and Annual Confidential Reports.

Several associations of state civil service officers opposing the government's decision to hold examinations and interviews for selecting personnel into the elite services.
