UPSC Exams-Preparation Strategy-Frequently Asked questions and Free Counselling

Dear Sir, (I feel very fortunate that I found your blog yesterday, when I googled through web. Then, I could not stop myself going through your posts and readers comments… I had spent almost 4 hours going through your blog on my first visit. Keep up the good work and it is very useful blog for CSE aspirants. I second you to start a nice blog). I am an engineer and working at abroad. i have got an younger sister and she has recently completed her B.Tech (E.C.E). She wants to become an IAS officer. I came to india in march-2012 on my short vacation and then I did consult R.C Reddy coaching centre in Hyderabad. They told me that they will take new batches in june 1 st week. So, we are planning to relocate our family to Ashok nagar in Hyderabad, the area which is highly suitable for CSE aspirants from Andhra Pradesh. Please find below brief details about my sister: 1. My younger sister studied in Telugu medium up to 10 th STD. 2. English Medium--- Intermediate (2 years in Krishnaveni residential junior college - Vijayawada)+ 1 year Eamcet long term coaching in sri Chaitanya (Vijayawada) + B.Tech (E.C.E – Vizag). 3. She has got an average knowledge in english language. Please advise for the following queries (Regarding my following queries… I have not yet discussed with my younger sister) 1. Is it a good idea to choose to write main exams in telugu language? 2. Is it a good idea to choose Telugu Litt.. and Public Administration as an optional subjects? 3. What about the availability of books and coaching for the aforesaid subjects? 4. For Telugu Litt… Mr P. Nagaraj ( I came to know through a world of mouth), since we are going to stay in Ashok nagar… it is o.k. for us. 5. What about Public Admin subject… Mr. Krupanandam ( I came to know through a world of mouth)and where does he teach., (where can we get coaching in telugu medium in and around Ashok nagar and availability of books in telugu language)? 6. For General studies + CSAT+ Interview Guidance ….i feel R.C.Reddy coaching centre is o.k. (Since My sister is going to admit in that coaching centre for telescopic coaching). 7. Are Telugu Litt and Public Admin..subjects being taught well in R.C.Reddy? 8. What is the success rate of writing the mains exam in telugu..( How many candidates have been selected for IAS ,so far … I mean on an average per annum from previous year’s statistics?). I know my younger sister can do well in languages.. she did score 99 marks out of 100 in Sanskrit in intermediate (She opted Sanskrit as an optional in her +2). Also, there is a research says that Women can do well, when it comes to Languages… what about your opinion in this regard? The reason, I am going to ask my younger sister to choose to write in telugu is … she does not have to spend a lot of time to get the main idea of the content… she can easily and effectively write the essays and general studies paper.. she can cover more topics in the given time comparatively than in English… she can feel more comfortable when she express… when it comes to interview she can do it in English… I think I have taken much of your time… thanks for being patient with me all this time.. Looking forward for your prompt response in this regard. Best regards, PTV RAO .

Answer:

Dear Friend, thank you very much for approaching us in this issue.
In our opinion, she can go with English medium as the success ratio of English medium is higher than the other Indian Languages.

As she has done her BE in English medium, she can very well cope up with the English medium subjects.

One more issue in this regard is that most of the good materials are in English medium only. It will be a tough job to read in English and write in Telugu medium.
There may be a change in the exam pattern, so she can very well join in a coaching Institute next year completing the degree.

She can very well improve the English by listening All India Radio News every day. That will improve her understanding and written ability within some period. Spoken English Class will NOT be useful in this area. That is only for conversation.
Now, ask her to concentrate on General Studies.
