Eminent Kannada Writer U.R.Ananthamurthy passes
away
Jnanpith awardee and renowned Kannada writer U R
Ananthamurthy passed away on Friday evening at a hospital in Bangalore. He was
hospitalised for infection and fever today morning. In his literary life, the
Kannada writer has won the Padma Bhushan in 1998, the Jnanpith award in 1994,
the state Rajyothsava award in 1984, while his nomination for the 2013 Man
Booker International Prize brought him to the attention of a Western audience.
He was also the Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University in Kerala during
late 1980s.
Most of Ananatha Murthy's works deal with
psychological aspects of people in different situation, times and
circumstances. His writings, supposedly analyze aspects ranging from challenges
and changes faced by Brahmin families of Karnataka to bureaucrats dealing with
politics influencing their work. Most of his novels are on reaction of
individuals to situation that are unusual and artificial. His death has created
a vacuum in Kannada literature.
