5+2=Success Not Seven
-Vinoth Sudarsanam
Fourteen
years ago, I remember my English teacher taught me, rather told me that “Hard
work leads to success “. Being a fourth class student, I thought, I should
study till 12’o clock daily all through my life to achieve success.
What
is Success?
Is it being the richest man? Is it being an actor in kollywood like
Dhanush? Is it becoming a CM or PM of India?
Not really !!!
Dhanush
also frowns and fights with his wife at home. India’s most powerful politician
Modiji‘s mother’s illness will haunt him even in the parliament. How often do
we see actor’s committing suicide?
So,
Success is apart from being rich, being a celebrity, being a powerful person.
Is
it achieving our so called goals which we set to ourselves?
We
can easily find an IAS officer worrying about his son’s future. A twenty year
old IIT student almost shivering during the eve of his semester exam. A manager in IT industry struggling to meet
his deadlines during the last couple of days. These people are definitely not
happy at some point of their lives despite being well positioned in their life
in a bigger picture.
People
tend to saturate after they attain a position which they set as goals. For
example, Clearing the IAS exam was that officer’s goal, Getting into an IIT was
that student’s goal. Getting a white collared job was that IT manager’s goal.
They all have relaxed after achieving their short term goals and lost their happiness after that .They have
forgotten that successful life demands a consistent hard work all through their
life span.
Responsibilities
keep creeping in all the time. One can even escape from first love but not from
responsibilities.
So,
Success is not about achieving short term goals, but needs ever demanding hard
work.
Is
working hard round the clock without happiness success?
“Life
is full of little things!! “. Just think of a day at a theme park with your
family. A sunday outing with your girlfriend finishing the day with dairy milk
which is often given for a better reason than to eat.A long night drive in ECR
listening to Illayaraja songs. Playing cricket the whole sunday with old
besties , cheating at least one time for your run out. What about an
adventurous trekking experience sighting wild animals live. These are some of
the little things which every person comes across in his life .We may have
experienced these without planning it but hereafter we should purposely try to
make these things happen quite often and keep ourselves happy .Many people grow
old without experiencing this. Never
ever miss these stuff.
Being
Happy and relishing one’s life then and now is really important for a
successful life. More than anything else, the very purpose of life is
Living. Just Live it!!
Can
Happiness alone bring success?
Of
course not! The biggest enemy in the world for an IT guy is a Monday. I myself
have a T-shirt with the print “I hate Mondays “. They want Monday to be a
holiday every week. Practically impossible .No Software company will come to
India if we all follow this principle and let us not ruin our PM’s dream of
making India a developed nation. Ask a person who is in medical leave for 2
months with a broken ankle. He dies to get back to work only to, Inactivity
will kill people after a particular time. Better to mix it up.
So
happiness has to be a part of life at right proportion .We should ensure that
it should not cost our career.
“A
successful life is a life when that person has achieved greater heights in his
career without compromising his happiness “
It
is very important to balance both our career and life. Society judges people by
their status and money .But, as a human being, our mind wants to relish the one
precious life which we have.
So,
how else can we live? It is smart to work very hard for the first 5 days in a week
productively with involvement and passion and relish life for the remaining 2
days of that week which also helps us get charged for the upcoming challenges
in the following week. This may guarantee a life which will do justice to both
inner and external demands of a person.
This
is more like a give and take policy. Dedicate two days of happiness and fun for
your mind every week , It is so generous to give you back everything including
five productive days which will shape our career and so popularity ,promotion
,money ,success ,status and what else.
So
the logic is simple!!
Sweat
it out for 5 days and relish your life for 2 days and become a permanent owner
of both Success and Happiness till your last breathe.
Learn
this life arithmetic which your math teacher didn’t teach you.
“5+2=Success
not Seven !!!“
